The PREMARO boat building project was born with the idea to build small, easily trailerable fishing boat, with pilot house that can be easily removed so that it fits in a garage 2,3m high (on trailer). It should fit in the lowest registration group in Croatia (but also many other countries) the so-called life-long registration, where no yearly fees or taxes are required. This means that boat should be no longer then 5m, and powered with no more than 35kW (47PS) engine.
I decided it should have a overnight capabilities for two. And of course it should be easily build with lowest budget possible.
Since small boats can't have some significant displacement it seems reasonable to build the boat as vee hull. It can be power with either outboard or small diesel inboard marine engine. There are few building materials and methods that came cross my mind, and I am especially interested in building this boat in HD Polyethylene.
The HD PE seams to be a great material for small boats, it is light, cheap, water- and UV- resistant, it floats, and it is shock resistant. It can be easily welded with hot air gun. The finished boat hull needs no paint cover or gel coat for protection.
I have seen some HD PE boats that look like RIBs but their tubes are also of PE.
